A photo of a Honda Accord BTCC shell gives us a great opportunity to observe
the way that the load paths are fed through the cage from the front to the back
of the chassis. Loads from the dashboard area are fed in two directions: down to the base
of the main hoop, and up to the top of the windshield and then down to the middle of
the main hoop at the driver's shoulder height. This path then continues down to the
rear floor pan to pick up subframe mounts. Note that the entry for the driver has essentially
become "diamond shaped". Also, although there is no diagonal in the main hoop, there are two
mini-diagonals which extend from the middle of the main hoop down to the center of the car on
the exhaust tunnel. Check out the "NASCAR style" bar which extends from the upper left side
of the windshield to this same point at the center of the car on the exhaust tunnel. Very few
European race sedans use this type of tube.
