Evo I vs. Evo III Undertray

Comparison of the Evo III undertray with the stock unit

Many E30 M3 owners may not be aware that there is a unique front undertray (splash-guard) available for the Evo III. It covers a larger portion of the underside of the engine compartment than the standard unit does. This is likely to produce a measurable increase in front-end downforce, especially when combined with the Evo III splitter/venturi.

The Evo III undertray comes with holes for the factory Evo III brake duct system (highlighted by the green arrow). This system dumps the cool intake air into the wheel well just ahead of the front tires. Such an arrangement provides minimal brake cooling. Thus if an owner were to combine the Evo III undertray with proper brake ducts, then these factory holes should probably be blocked off. This is a simple matter. You can see the semi-circular holes that i cut in my standard undertray. These are to fit the 4" hose that I have combined with Evo III ducts and modified "Battle Plates".

Note the holes for attachment of the Evo III venturi, shown by the blue circle.

The part numbers for the standard undertray, as well as for the Evo II and Evo III versions, are shown below (prices are at Nick Alexander BMW):
